Does anyone know what to use to keep their food warm for hikes?

Does anyone know what to use to keep their food warm for hikes?
I was hiking at the shortoff cut mountain trail in North Carolina yesterday and I made food the night before and put it in a plastic container with aluminum foil on top of the food and double layered wrapped with aluminum foil around my plastic container. I heated the food up in the morning before I left for my hiking trip. When I finally made it to the top of the mountain to eat my lunch, my food was already cold. I was wondering if anyone know what I could do or use to keep my food warm in cold weather. It was 38 degrees Fahrenheit with clear skies, walked 4.5 miles, took about 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the top of the mountain, and the elevation gain was about 1200 ft.
Edit: sorry that I didn’t post a picture of the food for context and for some reason it won’t let me post on with the edit. I made sautéed garlic asparagus, homemade garlic mash potatoes, sautéed tomatoes with basil, seasoned lamb leg steak, and Texas toast
