People say the plastic flavor goes away on its own, but that has not been the case for us and our water bladders/gravity bag filter that still tasted vaguely like plastic after 2 years of regular use and repeated attempts to remove the flavor.

I thought I had tried everything. Baking soda, vinegar, fresh lemon juice, diluted bleach, but it still tasted like plastic every time we used them. When all this time, all we needed was a couple tablets of denture cleanser and some hot water!!!

I was already very much looking forward to our backpacking trip to Channel Islands National Park, but now I am particularly thrilled that we won’t be drinking plastic water for days on end.

I have for many years been a fan of the Merrell 'Moab ventilator'( MK 1& 2) and had many pairs. The fit, comfort, durability and price have all been great. The soft ventilated nylon upper with suede trim is light,comfortable, airy, practical and super durable.The hard (ish) compund of the Moab 'Vibram' sole is comfortable, practical and super super super durable, with the shoes lasting me around 1,500 miles of daily wear. I waer them daily, on hard surfaces, plus weekly long day hikes on all terrain.I am light on footwear, with a good normal gait and I take good care generally of my shoes.

Recently I had a pair of Merrell Moab 2 Ventilators and Hilltop Bolt models fail on me, with the uppers splitting from the soles dramatically, after only around 300-500 miles of usage. This points to serious production defects, serious quality control incompetence, defective materials and / or manufacture processes. I am very very very disappointed with Merrell, and feel badly let down.Let me know if you have had any similar problems with Merrell footwear. Perhaps quality has improved now ?
