Long-distance hiker willing to share experiences and ask for knowledge

Hi all! short-time lurker here in the community. I think I haven't even made a comment yet but I feel it's time to give it a try.

I've been into long-distance hiking since a few years ago. So far I've done different self-challenges and have been preparing for a few others.

Some of my feats so far have been:

  • Walking from Utrecht (Netherlands) to Antwerp (Belgium) totalling 122km in 3 days

  • The whole Pieterpad in the Netherlands in 10 days (roughly 500km)

  • Utrecht to Antwerp, 80km in a single day

In the multiple-day trips, I sometimes camped and sometimes stayed at hostels or Airbnb, so I'm always bringing a backpack with me.

Onto my questions:

I'm preparing myself to walk from The Netherlands to Portugal next year. I'm planning to do this trip in 45 days. So I should walk around 50km a day to make it to my final destination in the city of Porto (Portugal).

• Does anyone have experience doing something similar?

• What equipment did you bring with you for the whole trip?

• How do you handle rests? Do you take days off

• What kept you going after the 30 km mark each day? (Those last 20 are always painful)

• Any tips for the before training?

Thanks a lot to anyone willing to give some info. Of course, I have some experience doing this so I can give some insights regarding the training and details of my previous journeys.

It’s due to be a scorching hot September day in the UK but still wanted to get out for a hike. Option? An early morning start and watch the sun rise over the beautiful Wiltshire countryside

My first hike! While it’s not such an impressive one I am so happy to get the ball rolling. Looking forward to going on longer and higher-elevation hikes! {Deliblato Sands} {Serbia}
