Does anyone know what these random iron bars sticking out of solid rock are? I find them all the time when I’m hiking.

Hiked Humphrey’s Peak, highest peak in Arizona, USA back in 2020. Winds at the top got to 100mph. Knocked me over as I was getting a picture.

Real world Lembas bread. Does any such thing exist?

I’m looking for a light weight, compact food item that’ll help me through a hike over day or two, that doesn’t need any preparation, tastes not bad, and gives me all the necessary nutrients to keep going.
Lembas bread from Lord of the Rings is the closest thing I can think, and that’s obviously not real. Ie, I’m thinking of an actually nutritious hard tack
I have a carb source down (flour, oats, raisins), and fat (tallow, nuts, oil), but I can’t think of a shelf stable protein source that can be baked into this. Protein powder is always sweet, jerky might work but is honestly just too expensive if I need enough.
I can’t think of a single shelf stable protein, and therefore I’m asking if any of you make something similar for your hikes. If so, what ingredients do you use?
Does anyone watch those virtual hiking vids on youtube?

Haha, I must be addicted to hiking. Or a dork.. one of the two.. I live in Hawaii so the hiking here is limited. I can't wait to one day move to the Rockies or something.. You wouldn't be able to keep me off the trails.
