Rookie mistakes

Rookie mistakes

Okay so I started hiking about a year ago but serious about 4 months ago. And thought I’d share my rookie mistakes. What were yours?

  1. DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER: I drove up to a new trail that was labeled moderate but looked like a paved exercise trail and local park so I didn’t even bring my backpack. Welp- I won’t do that again.

  2. Pack ALL THE ESSENTIALS- EVERYTIME. I haven’t needed a phone charger on my 1-4hr hikes until I needed a navigator on top of my tracker. Walked an little bit extra and my phone died. I ended up doing an additional two miles uphill because I didn’t have charger.

  3. BRING AN EXTRA PAIR OF SHOES in your car. If it was wet, hard, long…there’s nothing better than stretching & changing your hiking boots.

  4. WEAR THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT. Nothing like getting stuck with soaked sneakers, socks and wrinkled feet because despite forgetting your hiking boots you opted to do the hike in running shoes.
