Here’s an awesome tip for wet boots/socks while on a long hike/camping trip.

Here’s an awesome tip for wet boots/socks while on a long hike/camping trip.

I learned this on a youtube short. It's a very good tip for anyone who has wet boots/shoes while out on a long hike/camping trip.

You need to find dry rocks. They can't be anywhere near water bc rocks near a water source, even if they're dry on the outside, can be "soaked" through, making them a bad candidate for this tip.

So get a few dry rocks. Boil them. It's important you boil them and not heat them on a fire as I will explain below.

Once they've been boiled a few minutes, take them out of the water. The surface water will quickly dry off, leaving just the hot rock.

The reason to boil them and not heat them up over a fire is because the rocks will not be as hot after a boil as they would after heating them on a fire, thus helping to prevent the rocks from burning your shoes or socks.

Put the hot rocks inside your socks (if they're wet, or if you want a little added protection for your shoes if you think the rocks are too hot). Then put the rocks inside your shoes.

You can lay your shoes/socks close to a fire, then, if you want to speed up the process of drying the outside of your items while the rocks dry the inside.

This will dry out your shoes/boots/socks very quickly.

The rocks will need to be rather small, of course, but not so small that they don't stay heated for long.

That's the best tip I've ever heard for drying out shoes on a camping trip or a very long day hike.

(Of course, without a pot, this isn't going to do you much good. lol)
