Can you help me figure out where I hiked ten years ago in the American southwest?

This might be difficult, but I've never been able to figure it out by searching Google. There are three places I visited, and would really like to return to, if I could only figure out where the he'll they were.

Let me preface with my route. I drove from Indiana to Colorado, where I got hit with a big snow storm. I headed straight to Mexico, basically, from there. From Colorado, I made it out of the storm and ended up in Chama, New Mexico. From there I went through truth or consequences, Las cruces, Tucson AZ, Bombay Beach CA and the sultan sea, then to San Diego, the eventual destination.

The first one is the easiest. It was a very small park, I believe it was called Rock City. I think it was basically a big lava bulge that popped up, then pathways were eroded creating a maze through this huge rock. The whole thing was probably only an acre. The camp sites surrounded this entire outcrop.

The second one is trickier. This one was a hike from a campground, definitely rocky sandy desert but plenty of trees. It was a hike up to some place called something like Charu's last stand… or chucharo's final stand… something like that.

The last one might be the hardest… or maybe the easiest, because it had the most distinctive geology. Are you familiar with china's floating mountains, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park? It was like that, just a little less spectacular. I may be building it up in my memories, but there were a ton of skinny towers sticking straight up in the air.

If you read all this, I really appreciate it. It would be amazing to find these (at least the last two) places again, so and help is greatly appreciated.

Where should I go in the US to find the Milky Way but not mosquitoes?

Where should I go in the US to find the Milky Way but not mosquitoes?

Hi all!

I want to hike at night somewhere where I can see the real night sky with as little light pollution as possible. I live near NYC and I have been dying to see it my whole life. I am willing to go anywhere in the US to find it.

The catch is that I don’t want to go alone, and my wife is a mosquito magnet. She hates being outside at night because the mosquitoes swarm her and her skin blows up and it ruins any outdoor nighttime experience we try to have. Does anyone know somewhere? We would be traveling in the summer.
