Dealing with unleashed dogs.

I’ve been day-hiking for 5 years, and feel like a magnet for trash people with badly trained dogs off-leash. I’m willing to give a charging dog every chance until it bites to stop, and so far i haven’t been bitten, or had to hurt one. BUT now i have a Corgi that is a lot smaller than dogs i typically encounter. I’m not willing to wait and see if a loose charging dog is gonna bite mine before i take action, and it seems like the shutdown pushed a lot of people into trails that they have no respect for. Any experience/advice on handling bad people on trails with badly trained loose dogs? Today i had a big dog charge at mine and stop just out of my striking distance, and the owner’s only excuse was “oh i know he looks vicious” sarcastically.
