WHY? WHY? WHY?
My hiking partner and I have noticed this becoming more prevalent on the trails popular with dog owners. It is a crappy, pun intended, practice that need to stop.
This morning, on a hike at Ramapo Valley, Mahwah, NJ, USA, 1 mile in from any access point, some simpleton or more likely, an ignoramus, plastic bagged his/her dogs shit and tossed it off the side of the trail.
What purpose does this serve?
Why not carry out the bagged treasure?
Why leave it there?
The better option, though still not the ideal option, would be to just let the dog shit and leave it. Stepping in it sucks, but at least the weather and forest would eventually break it down, bagged, it lasts indefinitely. Hiking areas, especially in NJ. are becoming crowded with heavy usage, have the respect for the environment and fellow hikers to remove your dogs feces from the park.
